Colas is currently looking for a Legal Director.

Description of the vacancy

OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Designs and implements the necessary means to ensure the legality and legal security of acts concerning the management and development of the company in order to defend its interests.
  • Is responsible for compliance within the scope of Colas Belgium.
  • Participates in defining the strategies of the company/legal entities within the scope of Colas Belgium.
  • Implements innovative elements regarding ecological entrepreneurship.
  • Contributes to a culture of transparency within the company.
  • Manages the Legal & Insurance department team.

TASKS

  • Advises the General Management and operational departments on legal issues.
  • Advises and supports the General Management and operational teams on all aspects related to the company's activities, particularly in business law, corporate law, public and private works contracts, industrial matters (bitumen posts, material quarries...), environment...
  • Defines the strategy for managing pre-litigation and litigation of all kinds (claims, commercial disputes...) in coordination with legal teams and external counterparts (lawyers, experts, insurers...).
  • Selects and manages external services (lawyers, experts, brokers,...).
  • Ensures reporting to hierarchy and operational management including reporting, legal follow-up of cases..., as well as to Colas S.A..
  • Defines and/or implements the application of the Group's compliance policy and processes.
  • Represents the company in professional bodies.
  • Defines models and processes for handling subjects; technical contracts, validation processes... .
  • Determines appropriate risk coverage (contractual policy, insurance strategy, provisions, litigation strategy).
  • Designs and organizes legal training for employees and other departments... .
  • Involvement in cross-cutting subjects (industrial projects, real estate...) in connection with other functional departments.
  • Involvement in contract management in connection with the teams.
  • Participation in the training of operational staff on various subjects (construction law, contract law, ethics, etc...).

  • Actively participates (exemplary role) in respecting and applying the safety and environmental requirements and obligations of the Colas Group.

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

  • Manages, leads, motivates, and supports the Legal & Insurance department team.
  • Advises employees and shares knowledge and expertise.
  • Ensures an adequate number of employees, ensures their integration and training, and takes corrective action if necessary.
  • Determines promotion opportunities.
  • Communicates decisions to employees and explains them.

Profile

  • Master's degree in law (business law or construction law) or equivalent by experience.
  • +10 years of significant experience in one or more areas of business law, public law, tax law, insurance law, social law...) or recognized experience and authority. (preferably in a company in the construction or public works sector + experience in team management).
  • Proficiency in French/Dutch/English.
  • Mastery of Office 365 suite and digital mindset.
  • Affinity with road construction or technical matters.
