The Legal Counsel will provide comprehensive legal support across all departments, overseeing general commercial and corporate matters, contracts, and regulatory compliance, with a focus on ICT law.
This role will require a hands-on and enthusiastic legal professional with a solid understanding of legal issues preferably also with knowledge and interest in technology and data protection. The successful candidate will have a can-do attitude and will be able to handle a variety of tasks autonomously and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Commercial and Corporate Law
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts
- Provide legal support on corporate law, including company structure, board meetings, and corporate policies
- Advise on legal matters related to business transactions, and other corporate initiatives
- Oversee corporate governance matters, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations and best practices
- Stay updated on regulatory developments in the data centre and technology sectors, advising on potential impacts to the business
2. ICT and Data Protection
- Oversee data privacy and protection compliance, ensuring adherence to GDPR and other relevant data protection laws
- Serve as the primary advisor on ICT law, including intellectual property, cybersecurity, and technology-related initiatives
- Work with internal teams to implement and maintain robust data security and privacy protocols
- Monitor legislative changes relevant to ICT and data protection, ensuring timely updates to policies and practices
3. Risk Management, Dispute Resolution and Litigation Management
- Manage and oversee any legal disputes, working closely with external counsels as required
- Act as the point of contact for litigation matters, regulatory inquiries, and other legal proceedings
- Identify and manage legal risks across all areas of the business, proposing practical solutions to mitigate them
4. Stakeholder Collaboration
- Partner with internal teams (e.g., Finance, IT) to align legal support with business objectives
- Support the executive team with strategic legal advice on key decisions affecting the business
- Engage and manage external counsel for specialized legal matters
Profiel
- Master’s in law with a specialisation in corporate, commercial, or technology law is highly desirable
- Minimum of 5+ years experience gained in a reputable law firm and/or as an inhouse legal counsel in an (international) company
- In addition, relevant experience in commercial law and preferably a strong interest in ICT law and corporate law, as well as understanding of generalist legal topics would be a strong advantage
Skills:
- General commercial law and corporate law
- Knowledge of data privacy law and ICT law is considered a plus
- Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- Fluency in Dutch and English; in addition, proficiency in French would be a plus
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts for non-legal stakeholders
- Highly organized, able to manage multiple priorities and respond flexibly to changing demands
- Experience in the data center, technology, or cloud services industry is a plus
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
