Master degree in law in Belgium and 3 to 5 years’ experience as a lawyer or in-house legal counsel in the field of real estate law. Dutch-speaking with an excellent knowledge of French.
Our client is a stock-listed, publicly regulated real estate company with a focus on medium-size shopping centres - with scope for expansion - that are dominant in their catchment area. Wereldhave Belgium has adopted a proactive management approach to safeguard and reinforce the market position of its / their shopping centres.
Our client is currently looking for a midlevel legal counsel.
As Legal officer, you will report to the Head of Legal of the Company and you will be working closely with other departments of the Company (a.o. the leasing department), which involves varied real estate legal support to the business. You will effectively ensure legal conformity and minimize probability of exposure. Your duties will include drafting, editing and negotiating purchase and sale agreements, offers to lease, commercial and civil leases, and other miscellaneous real-estate related agreements and documents.
You will also monitor the work of external legal counsel and notaries retained to assist with transactional matters, and may be asked to manage litigation matters with support from external counsel.
You may be required to sit on project working groups, such as the one dealing with the company’s environmental obligations, as well as take minutes and implement decisions.
You must stay on current legislation, doctrine and jurisprudence in the field of real estate law.
- You hold a Belgian Law Degree and you have ideally worked as a qualified lawyer / in-house counsel in the field of real estate law. You have around 3 to 5 years of experience;
- You are a native Dutch-speaker with an excellent command of French (bilingual) and a good knowledge of English;
- You are a team player with excellent legal capabilities, an entrepreneurial and pragmatic spirit with strong written and verbal communication skills, including strong drafting skills. Youpossess the ability to clearly and concisely explain concepts to non-legal stakeholders and to push back as necessary.
